Specsavers Coleraine is to be the title sponsor of the Portrush 5 Mile Road Race organised by local athlete Mervyn Thompson in aid of Prostate Cancer UK. The race will take place on Friday 26th August starting at 7.30pm on the Dunluce Road in front of Royal Portrush Golf Club and finishing behind the Watersports Centre at East Strand.
Judith Ball, store director, Specsavers Coleraine, said, ‘We are delighted to support Mervyn’s initiative to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK. It’s such a worthy cause and even more significant as Mervyn’s father sadly lost his battle against the disease 5 years ago. Specsavers will be well represented on the evening by our colleagues William Stewart and Sheldon Herald who have bravely agreed to run the distance! We’re also donating hundreds of bottles of water to help the runners round the course.’
Run for prostate cancer
Organiser Mervyn Thompson, who has a UK Ambassadors Role for parkrun, added, ‘The race on 26th August will combine two great passions of mine – running and a charity which is very personal. I am really pleased to welcome Specsavers as title sponsor and would encourage as many people as possible to lace up their trainers and get running for Prostate Cancer UK.’
Participants can register to enter online up to 21st August on https://online.athleticsni.org/ps/event/Portrush5MileRoadRace or on the night itself at the event start. Further information can be obtained by emailing Mervyn at Portrush5@gmail.com
