Coleraine’s Specsavers store and hearing centre has sponsored the annual Rathmore Golf Club fundraising golf day in May.
The Alzheimer’s Society were the beneficiaries this year receiving over £2300 as a result of a Barbeque on Sunday 6th May and the donations of over 200 golfing competitors on Mayday.
Over £25,000 raised for local charities
Store director Judith Ball said: ‘This was the 13th year that Specsavers has supported this fundraising golf day and well over £25,000 has been raised for a number of local charities. We selected the Alzheimer’s Society this year because as a ‘Dementia Friendly’ store we have done a lot with our staff in terms of training with the Society to better serve and understand our customers with dementia.
'It has been a very rewarding process and as a result we wanted to contribute to the invaluable work which the Society does in Northern Ireland. A big thank you must go to Rathmore Golf Club and all its members for supporting this great event.’
Dementia sufferers’ numbers expected to rise
There are around 20,000 people in Northern Ireland living with dementia, with this number expected to rise substantially in the future.
