Locals were set for a night of tuneful entertainment as Lanarkshire’s aspiring musical aficionados took to the stage for The Rotary Young Musician of the Year 2017.

Local competition sponsored by Specsavers

The prestigious competition, sponsored by Specsavers Airdrie and Coatbridge, is organised by the local Rotary Clubs and gives children the opportunity to stand up on stage and showcase their musical talents.

Judged by three experienced musical teachers from other areas, the winner of Young Musician of the Year goes forward to compete in a regional heat, and potentially on to the finals at a national level.

Young Musician of the Year 2017 took place on Wednesday 8th November in the main auditorium of Coatbridge College.

Keen to support local organisations

Keith Sharp, store director at Specsavers Airdrie and Coatbridge, said: ‘We are always keen to support local organisations and causes and this is a fantastic event which has seen superb talents over the years.

‘Well done to all the performers on the night, they were all fantastic but a big congratulations goes to this year’s winner.’

John Gray from the Coatbridge, Airdrie and Monklands Rotary Club said: ‘We have produced this competition for over twenty-seven years locally, and this year’s contest promises to be a fantastic evening, showcasing music and song from local young singers and instrumentalists – and it did not disappoint.’
