The team at Clapham Junction who like to say a big thank you to all its customers who donated £100 towards Brain Tumour research in February.

Honouring our colleague

Specsavers in Clapham Junction set out to raise funds for research into the disease which killed one of their colleagues. To date, £800 has been pledged to the cause via a Just Giving Page and £100 was raised in store when the team jumped on an exercise bike to peddle for the charity.

Selcuk Arslan was only 46 when he passed away as a result of an aggressive brain tumour. Selcuk was the store's director and well loved by his team and customers.  The store fund raiser also supplemented the team's participation in the Hampton Court Half Marathon.

Well done to those who took part

The members of the team who took part in the half marathon were store manager Graham Tritton plus colleagues Neil Bryant, Yannick Dyant, Alan Costales, Shadrack Brown, Sonia Kumar and Rohit Kumar.

Graham Tritton says: 'We were all delighted to run the Hampton Court Half Marathon for Brain Tumour Research to honour Sel, an amazing person. We also wanted to help other people affected by this devastating disease. The event was both physically and emotionally challenging but it was a fitting tribute.'

Director at both Clapham Junction and Feltham stores, Selcuk enjoyed helping his patients and even returned to work only a month after surgery to de-bulk his brain tumour. Selcuk’s partner, Christy, said: 'Selcuk was a true inspiration with his achievements. I'm so grateful that he was part of my life. He always supported me and guided me in every way!'

A word from the charity

Sue Farrington Smith MBE, Chief Executive of Brain Tumour Research, commented: 'We are extremely grateful to the team from Specsavers Clapham Junction for their ongoing support in raising vital funds and awareness of brain tumours. Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer but just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease.'
