Retail director Stuart Moir was born and bred in the Clacton-on-Sea area.
The 47-year-old started working in retail after completing his A-Levels in Tendring Technology College in Frinton. His first position was with retail giant Harrods as an executive management trainee, and has since worked for blue-chip companies such as Selfridges, GAP and Disney.
International retail experience
He has experience across a number of industries from fashion to fine foods, including a role as managing director of a luxury chocolate company. His career has taken him around the world and he has spent time in Japan, Moscow, Kazan and Tel Aviv for work. He moved back to the area to spend more time near the seaside.
Stuart began at Specsavers as part of the Pathway partnership development course and, in 2016, worked in Ipswich and Chelmsford stores, before joining Specsavers in Clacton-on-Sea last year as retail director.
Stuart said: ‘Since starting at the store it’s been great to help reorganise the shop floor and focus on increasing the availability of our products. There are plans in the future to improve the experience for our customers and ensure we offer the best service for both optical and audiology customers. We aim to become the automatic choice for eyecare and hear-care, due to our clinical knowledge, exceptional service and the value we provide.
Creating a fantastic environment
Stuart strongly believes in supporting the concept of a fun and exciting places to work and plans on creating more training opportunities for staff to increase their experience, skills and knowledge, while also improving the consumer experience in-store.
In his spare time Stuart enjoys oil painting, collecting unusual statues (including six giant, vintage Dutch gnomes) and is on the executive committee of the Colchester 12th Sea Scouts. He also enjoys spending time with his wife & two children.
