Specsavers directors across Essex are joining together to take part in a cross country bike ride and walk to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society as part of Dementia Awareness Week (21-27 May).
The event will take place on Friday 25 May with a team including Clacton-on-Sea store’s retail director Stuart Moir.
Some to walk, some to ride
One team of six will cycle 50 miles across the county, while at the same time six more directors will walk 10km.
The group also includes directors from Brentwood, Basildon, Lakeside, Upminster, Southend, Leigh-on-Sea, Canvey Island, Wickford and Bishops Stortford, along with Essex regional relationship manager, Roy Thorogood.
Second year of donations
Roy said: ‘This is our second year holding sporting events to raise money for this really worthwhile charity. We are pledging to raise a minimum of £1,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society, who do fantastic work supporting people suffering with Alzheimer’s and Dementia, and their loved ones.’
Affecting 820,000 people in the UK, dementia touches 23 million UK residents who have a friend or family member suffering from the condition.
