Specsavers in Chiswick invited Spectacle Wearer of the Year regional finalist Damian Winter to the store for a special prize presentation this month.
Damian, a 3D designer from Acton, entered the competition online and was ‘absolutely chuffed’ after coming out on top in the South East region’s 35-44 age category.
He was rewarded with a bottle of champagne, a certificate and a £150 voucher to spend on a new pair of fashionable frames, which were presented to him by Specsavers Chiswick store director Irfan Akhtar.
Damian will now have the chance to reach the grand finals of Spectacle Wearer of the Year 2017, with the overall winner receiving a cash prize of £10,000.
I wear glasses for both style and practical reasons
He says: ‘When I heard I had been chosen as a regional finalist, I was absolutely chuffed. I never expected I would make it this far, and it would be amazing if I got through to the finals.
‘My eyesight is very important to me and I wear glasses for both style and practical reasons. My vision has deteriorated because of my work in the computer industry over the last 15 years, so they’re important for reading and driving. But, because I like my frames so much, I wear them all the time as well.’
Irfan says: ‘We were thrilled when we heard Damian had been voted as a regional finalist for Spectacle Wearer of the Year and I was proud to present him with his award at the store.
‘As a local and valued Specsavers customer, we’re now keeping our fingers crossed that he makes it all the way to the final stage of the competition and takes home the £10,000 prize.’
Damian is one of thousands of glasses wearers across the UK and Republic of Ireland who have been sharing specs selfies online and visiting their local Specsavers store to enter this year’s Spectacle Wearer of the Year.
Now in its 22nd year, the competition will give regional finalists from five age categories – 16-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-59 and over 60s, plus a Facebook favourite voted by the public – the opportunity to attend a star-studded awards ceremony at London’s 8 Northumberland Avenue on 10 October, which will be hosted by former Girls Aloud star Nadine Coyle.
