Two of Chester’s proudest glasses wearers were honoured this week as they took a step closer to winning the coveted Spectacle Wearer of the Year Award, with a grand prize of £10,000 and a luxury holiday in the Bahamas.
Charlotte Britton and Karen Grey from Chester were chosen from hundreds of entries from across the North West and North Wales.
Known as the Oscars of the glasses world, the awards celebrate specs wearers from the UK and Republic of Ireland, across four age categories: 15-24; 25-39; 40-59 and 60+.
Speaking about her place as a finalist in the 25-39 category, Charlotte says: ‘I’m thrilled to have been picked as a finalist in my category for the region. I’ve sometimes felt a bit self-conscious about wearing my glasses but this has been a real boost. I’ve picked out a new pair of frames today and I’m looking forward to wearing them with pride.’
On bagging a place as a finalist in the 40-59 category, Karen says: ‘It’s a perfect competition for me, as I love my glasses. I have stopped wearing contact lenses completely and always wear my specs now.’
Competition launched by Girls Aloud singer Kimberley Walsh
The awards were launched by Girls Aloud singer and West End star Kimberley Walsh earlier this year, who Karen and Charlotte could meet at the awards ceremony if they triumph in their age categories.
Huw Moffat, store director at Chester Specsavers, says: ‘I’m delighted we have two Spectacle Wearer of the Year finalists from Chester this year. They both look great in their frames and we wish them all the best in the competition.’
