Recycle Week 2018 is taking place from Monday 24 to Sunday 30 September, and the team at Specsavers Chesham are eager to support. The store are encouraging customers to bring in their old spectacles to donate to Vision Aid Overseas (VAO).
Vision Aid Overseas
Founded in 1985, Vision Aid Overseas has been helping some of the world’s poorest people to see clearly for over 30 years. VAO has been Specsavers international eye care charity since 2008 and since then Specsavers has raised more than half a million pounds.
How can customers get involved?
Stores across the UK have recycling boxes on the shop floor, where customers are encouraged to bring in their old spectacles. The donated specs are recycled by VAO and money raised by selling the recycled materials will support the charity’s work providing eye care to people in deprived areas across Ghana, Zambia and Ethiopia.
From the store director
Store director Heena Thaker says:
‘We’ve long supported VAO through our collection boxes in-store, and are so thankful to all our customers who have donated over the years. With Recycle Week around the corner, we’re asking our customers to have another rummage around to see if there are any specs you no longer use that you might want to consider donating. It would make a big difference to the lives of many people overseas!’
