Springbank Primary Academy was presented with £500 by Tweedy the Rat Catcher from the Everyman’s Dick Whittington and his Cat pantomime, after being crowned winners of a competition run by Specsavers in Cheltenham.

Children from five local primary schools were invited to design a pair of Christmas-themed specs using templates provided by the store.

A winner from each school was picked, with the pupil receiving a £20 WHSmiths voucher. From these five, an overall winning school was chosen to receive the £500 cash prize.

Tough choice

‘We were so impressed with the standard of entries, everyone has taken lots of time over them and come up with some really creative designs,’ said store director, Melanie Brackstone.

‘It was a tough choice picking the five individual winners from the 352 entries we had, let alone which school was going to take home the overall prize.

'To have Tweedy come along and help us with the presentation is just great, it puts an extra festive spin on things. We’d like to say a huge thank you to all five schools for taking part but congratulations to Springbank.’

The five schools that took part are; Rowanfield Infants, Dunalley Primary, Bishops Cleeve Primary Academy, Springbank Primary and Greatfield Park.
