A senior lab technician at Specsavers Chelmsley Wood is focusing on fundraising during the festivities by hoping to run a whopping 96 miles for charity.
Festive fundraising
Swapping spandex for a suit, Darren Laffey is setting himself the task to run five kilometres every day throughout December while dressed as Santa. For his efforts, Darren is hoping to raise £1,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society, but within just a few days of announcing his charity challenge, he has already received more than £725.
‘If you can’t dress up as Santa in December, then, when can you?’ says Darren. ‘I can’t believe how much money I’ve already received – I haven’t even started running yet. I’d like to say a huge thank you to those who have already donated, and I can’t wait to get stuck in and raise vital funds for those affected by dementia.’
You can donate by visiting Daren’s Just Giving page.
A word from the store director
Store director at Specsavers Chelmsley Wood, Sukhi Drake, said: ‘We’re extremely proud of Darren and his fundraising efforts. Having a member of the team who goes above and beyond when it comes to helping others is fantastic. We’re all hoping he raises a lot of money for the Alzheimer’s Society, and we’ll be supporting him along the way.’
