Retail manager Megan Hodges first came to Specsavers in Chelmsford as part of her work experience when she was 15 years old.
Climbing the ladder
After she finished her GCSE’s, Chelmsford-born Megan decided to start working on the weekends before joining full time in 2002. She worked her way up the ladder - first as contact lens supervisor and then five years later as contact lens manager. In 2013 she became the retail manager for the store.
The 32-year-old, who now lives in Leigh-on-Sea, said: ‘I love working at Specsavers. The team is amazing and most people who join us start their career in the retail department - so I’m very involved in the recruitment and training of the staff before they decide whether or not they would like to specialise.
‘It’s like a proper community!’
Customer contact is also one of the things Megan really enjoys about her job. She continued: ‘It’s lovely to meet the customers and get to know them. Some of their stories are really heart-warming. There are people who I met when they were kids and now they’re in their twenties – some have their own kids and it’s amazing to almost watch them grow up. When I’m out on the street people are always saying hello and we have a little catch-up. It’s like a proper community!’
In her spare time, Megan likes going to the cinema and shopping with her friends or with her boyfriend, Christian.
Specsavers in Chelmsford is opening a new store next month in Sainsbury’s in Springfield.
