Cardiff residents have helped Specsavers on Albany Road raise more than £100 for Welsh children’s charity, Cerebra, by taking part in an in-store bake sale.
The charity’s mascot, Sparky the Bear, joined staff to encourage customers to make a small donation in exchange for a muffin, cake or pastry.
Cerebra supports children with brain conditions, such as cerebral palsy and Down syndrome, and provides practical and emotional help to their families.
It also creates bespoke items, such as customised wheelchairs and surfboards, at its Innovation Centre in Swansea. The items are free for children with brain conditions and aim to make their lives easier, more inclusive and more fun.
Entertaining our visitors
Dan Palfrey, store manager, says: ‘We were really keen to raise money for Cerebra and this bake sale is a fun and tasty way to do so. Everyone was a good sport and the husband of one of our staff members even took time out of his day to dress up as Sparky to entertain our younger visitors.
‘As someone with a keen interest in science and technology, I think the work that Cerebra does at its Innovation Centre is fascinating. The support services it provides to the families of children with brain conditions are remarkable. The bake sale was a real hit with our customers, and we are looking forward to doing more fundraising for the charity in-store during the next few months.’
