Staff at Specsavers on Queen Street have raised more than £32 for the Royal Voluntary Service to help raise awareness of age related-hearing loss.
‘Listen Out’ campaign
The fundraising coincided with the Royal Voluntary Service and Specsavers’ campaign, Listen Out, which aims to ensure that those experiencing hearing loss are supported to get treatment. It follows new research* which identifies that half a million over 75s in the UK are suffering in silence, with almost half of them (40 per cent) being significantly socially impacted by their symptoms, including feelings of extreme isolation and loneliness.
Day of fundraising
Ela Shelley and Laura Millward, staff of Specsavers on Queen Street, raised money for Royal Voluntary Service by spending a day cleaning glasses, handing out leaflets about hearing loss and encouraging people to use the in store hearing screener.
James Deavall, director of Specsavers in Cardiff, said: ‘We want to help older people in Cardiff who might be suffering with age-related hearing loss to continue to live independently at home and feel more connected to their communities, that’s why we were keen to support the Royal Voluntary Service.’
