The Specsavers Stiletto Stroll saw more than 50 people come together to take part in a sponsored walk through Cardiff to raise funds for breast cancer care and research.
Led by television presenter Sarra Elgan, the crowd of men, women and children made their way around the city centre, raising £1,500 for Velindre Cancer Centre.
Fund vital research
Ms Elgan said: ‘It was fantastic to lead the stroll this year, and it’s certainly a great way to raise money for breast cancer care and research, encouraging people to take an hour out of their day to come together for a very special Welsh charity.’
Around 2,500 women in Wales are diagnosed with breast cancer each year, and more than half of those will be supported and cared for by Velindre. The money raised by the stroll will be used to fund vital research and provide care, support and treatment for patients and their families across Wales.
‘Brought people together’
James Deavall, director of the Cardiff store, said: ‘Specsavers is an official fundraising partner of Velindre and it is a cause we are very proud to support. It was great to see the crowd come together at the store this year for the second Specsavers Stiletto Stroll and enjoy the buzz of having Sarra with us to walk through Cardiff in our heels!
‘I really enjoyed sporting a pair of stilettos for the event – the stroll really is a fantastic way to raise money and have fun.’
Dr Jacinta Abraham, clinical director at Velindre Cancer Centre, said: ‘The stroll brought celebrities, patients, ex-patients, doctors, nurses, friends and family together, all walking tall with one purpose - to raise the profile of breast cancer at Velindre.’
