The Cameron Toll store, which reopened for routine eye appointments in August, has employed a range of measures to ensure customers are booked in for eye tests as quickly as possible, despite running at limited capacity due to safety restrictions.
To facilitate customer requests for eye tests, the store has seen customers as quickly as possible in order to get through the appointments waiting list. Cameron Toll has employed locum opticians to assist the existing team with extended store opening hours. Additionally, they are running five extra clinics to meet demand – the equivalent of 100 extra appointments per week.
Customers must book appointments in advance, enabling the store to manage social distancing, and a range of new hygiene and personal protection measures are also in place. These include restrictions on the number of customers allowed in store, strict social distancing, card payments instead of cash where possible and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in line with public health guidance. All testing equipment and frames are thoroughly sanitised after each use.

Joe Alubaid, retail director at Specsavers in Cameron Toll, says: ‘The guidelines are designed to keep customers and colleagues safe but have meant fewer people are allowed in store. Maintaining high levels of cleanliness may mean some examinations take a little longer.
‘We’ve seen a large number of booking requests for eye tests since we reopened for routine appointments – we have been prioritising customers who had booked appointments during lockdown. The measures we have put in place to mitigate appointment waiting times have already proven to be successful. We would ask customers to be patient with us as we welcome them back.’
Joe continues: ‘If you are due a routine appointment, or have any concerns about your eye health, please get in touch. Audiology services are also back up and running so the same applies to customers in need of routine hearing tests.’
Specsavers’ home visits teams have also restarted services, providing eyecare and hearing services at home for people who would not be able to visit a store without assistance. The full breadth of optical and audiology services, including routine eye and hearing tests, contact lens consultations, frame repairs and the sale of glasses, contact lenses, hearing aids and other products, are now available.
