ONE LUCKY Cambridge resident has been selected from thousands of entrants from East Anglia as a regional finalist for Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year (SWOTY).
Loyal Specsavers customer
Cambridge local and loyal Specsavers customer, Joelle Bouttell is in with a chance of winning £10,000 as well as a luxury holiday in the Bahamas, plus a styling consultation by Gok Wan and a personal shopping trip in London after being awarded her regional finalist certificate at the Specsavers store in Cambridge, located on 13 Fitzroy Street.
The mother and soy-candle maker believes the competition is a great way to promote glasses and encourage glasses wearers to embrace their frames. She believes it is important to show people that glasses are fashionable and cool, with a particular focus on younger glasses wearers who can still suffer from confidence issues as a result of wearing glasses.
Vast range of different colours
Joelle says: ‘I love wearing glasses; I think they can be really stylish and complete an outfit. Glasses are no longer un-cool and I want people who wear glasses to understand this and wear their specs with pride. With the vast range of different colours and styles available, glasses can really reflect a person’s character and style.’
If triumphant in her category, Joelle will also have the chance to meet Girls Aloud singer and West End star Kimberley Walsh who launched the awards this year.
One spectacle wearer is selected from each of the four age categories – 16-24; 25-39; 40-59 and 60+, plus a wildcard finalist who is voted for by the public on Facebook.
The awards will be held at London’s 8 Northumberland Avenue on Tuesday 7 October. All age category winners will win a VIP makeover, and one overall winner will take home the ultimate title in specs wearing.
Variety of specs
Winner of The Spectacle Wearer of the Year will receive £10,000, plus a week’s holiday for two in the Bahamas courtesy of the Grand Lucayan Beach & Golf Resort as well as a variety of specs to complement every ensemble.
