In-store trainer, Emma Blackman, has a huge challenge ahead and keen to support her are all her colleagues at Specsavers in Camberley.
£1000 raised for Alzheimer's Society
Emma, with her sister and 3 friends, are embarking on a midnight trek of Ben Nevis on 8 July. They hope to raise £4,000 for a charity close to all their hearts - the Alzheimer's Society.
The team are also very supportive of the charity, having Dementia Friends in store who are able to assist with customers living with dementia. As it was Dementia Awareness Week in May, the team decided to create awareness and fundraise at the same time for this great charity.
On your bike!
Colleagues decided to pedal for the anticipated time it will take Emma to complete her challenge. So, at 930am on Saturday 20th May, team members took it in turn to cycle on their static excercise bikes right through to 4.30pm.
Generous customers and passer-bys made donations and combined with a percentage of sales from the day, Emma now has a healthy £1,000 in the donation pot ahead of her trek.
'This trek is for our late Grandad as much as our Granny who has dementia. In the early stages of her illness he covered for her, he adored her and was heart broken to know he would be leaving her first. With the help of our parents and extended family she is, for now able to live at home and they would not have it any other way.
'Seeing how dementia affects those you love is heartbreaking. Charities like the Alzheimer's Society are amazing at offering support and it made complete sense for me and my sister to support their cause. I'd like to say a massive thank you to everyone who donated - we are extremely grateful.'
