Specsavers in Camberley was honoured to ‘spin’ to raise funds for Papworth hospital and their lifesaving cardiac treatment.
Supporting a great cause
Papworth Hospital is the UK’s largest specialist cardiothoracic hospital and the country’s main heart and lung transplant centre.
Local Mitchell Smith is embarking on various fundraising activities for the hospital, and when he asked Lateef’s team to be involved, they all jumped at the chance.
A spinathon was held outside of the store in April. Other activities planned by Mitchell include the London to Paris bike ride in September.
Why their support is needed
In the UK, less than half of patients who are listed for a heart transplant will receive this life-saving treatment even after waiting for 3 years.
A pioneering development in heart transplants means there is a larger pool of potential lifesaving organs available for donation. DCD (Donation after Cardiac Death) transplants use the hearts of those non-heart beating donors but currently, DCD heart transplants are not available on the NHS
Papworth Hospital receives no Government funding, is charity funded and rely on the generosity of donations.
Specsavers in Camberely admires their work and their continued research and treatment of all cardiac conditions.
