Specsavers in Caerphilly is looking to the future, following a visit to promote eyecare at a local college.
Career in eyecare
The team attended a careers day at St David’s College in Cardiff to encourage Welsh students unsure of their future to take up a career in eyecare. Geraint Jones, store director at Caerphilly, was joined by Jamie Pullen of the Barry store to speak with students about the options for a career with Specsavers.
Specsavers works closely with young members of staff interested in progressing a career in optics. Its apprenticeship scheme provides an introduction to the workplace and allows staff the chance to gain nationally-recognised qualifications as they work.
The Welsh Government has pledged to provide 100,000 apprenticeships in Wales by 2022 - a long-term plan that Specsavers is proud to support with its training schemes.
‘Growth of the next generation’
Geraint Jones, store director at Caerphilly, said: ‘By visiting St David’s College, we were able to speak with local students and, hopefully, support the growth of the next generation of eyecare professionals.
‘We are already planning to work with other stores so that we can engage with as many schools and colleges across south Wales as we can.’
