The Burnley store has offered a full time position to its apprentice Shamila Hussain following her completion of a one year optical apprenticeship at the store.
Shamila began working at Burnley Specsavers as an apprentice in January 2016 and successfully completed her course. She now looks forward to developing her career in optical retail and being a permanent member of the Burnley team.
Shamila says: 'I would like to say thank you to all my colleagues and customers for helping me successfully complete the Optical Apprenticeship Journey. It has provided me with the opportunity to progress further in my chosen career, by applying these new skills and experiences acquired in the last 12 months.'
National Apprenticeship Week
Shamila's story coincides with National Apprenticeship Week (March 6-10). Specsavers held a graduation ceremony in Birminham, celebrating 100 employees, including Shamila, who had recently completed its optical apprenticeship programme. The ceremony formed part of the opticians and audiologists’ annual Management Seminar at the International Conference Centre, attended by more than 1,000 staff from across the UK and Ireland business.
This year, 180 apprentices are due to graduate and there will be at least 150 new apprenticeship vacancies.
The programme also opens up successful apprentices to further studying opportunities, with the potential to qualify as a dispensing optician within five years and even work towards having their own Specsavers store.
The apprenticeship scheme has been running for just over two years and 90% of graduates take on full-time positions within the company.
