A familiar face at Specsavers in Burnham-on-Sea will soon look a little different when he shaves his head to raise money for the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) as part of National Eye Health Week (18-24 September).
Store director and optometrist, Rama Venkat will be braving the shave and is looking for sponsorship in the lead up to the big day. Customers can either pop into the store or visit his fundraising page to donate.
‘It wasn’t actually my idea but when the team asked me to do it I thought it would be a great opportunity to raise some money,’ says Rama. ‘It will be a big difference for my family, staff and customers but it makes sense for such a good cause.
'I would really appreciate the support of the local community, so if you can donate some money, no matter how small, it all counts towards the final total.’
The RNIB helps to make daily life better for people affected by sight loss, by being there when you need them. The charity raises awareness of sight problems, and how to prevent sight loss, as well as campaigning for better services and a more inclusive society.
