Following three months of fundraising, which culminated in a family of four head shave and hair cut, Specsavers Burnham-on-Sea has handed over a cheque for £2,000 to Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB).
A summer of fundraising activities
Since July, the team has been hard at work raising money for the charity which provides help and support for people affected by sight loss. The fundraising kick started in June with a donation of £1 per sight test to coincide with National Sunglasses Day, while July saw the start of a silent auction to win a cardboard cut-out of Kylie Minogue.
A kids’ day, with guest of honour, RNIB’s mascot Sooty in attendance, was held in August, before the family head shave and cut finale in September which coincided with National Eye Health Week.

‘We’ve been so grateful to all our customers that have supported us over the last few months, helping us to raise £2,000 for RNIB,’ said store director Rama Venkat, who had his whole head shaved.
‘Our original target was £500, so to have raised four times as much as this is fantastic. The whole team has put in a huge amount of effort and it’s great to see this rewarded with such a big fundraising total.
'I’d also like to say thank you to my family for supporting me with the head shave, to have all four of us taking part really made it an extra special event.’
Along with the Mayor of Burnham-on-Sea, Jo Killick, RNIB Area Fundraising Manager for Bristol, Bath and Somerset, was at the store to receive the cheque.
