Local opticians puts charity in focus
Staff at Specsavers in Burgess Hill have lent their support to Cancer Research UK by holding a week-long fundraising initiative, raising over £130 for the charity.
Store staff wore special t-shirts throughout the week and decorated the store fully with banners and balloons.
Host of activities
The store organised a host of activities throughout the week as staff sought to raise as much money as possible. A bake sale took place with an array of delicious treats available for customers to try in return for donations. They also provided free repairs and glasses MOTs as well as running in-store games such as a ‘guess the weight’ and a ‘guess the number’ competitions, giving customers the opportunity to win prizes in return for donations.
Store Director, Maggie Johnson, says: ‘We are delighted to have raised a sizeable amount to support the great work Cancer Research UK does. Members of team have been affected by cancer in some form so this is a charity which is close to their hearts. ‘We would like to thank our loyal customers for their continued support and generosity and look forward to holding similar events in the future.’
Cancer Research UK, the world's largest independent cancer research charity, conducts research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the disease. Research activities are carried out in institutes, universities and hospitals across the UK, both by the charity's own employees and by its grant-funded researchers. It also provides information about cancer and runs campaigns aimed at raising awareness of the disease and influencing public policy.
