Julie Archer, a local yoga teacher, has been shortlisted in the annual Specsavers search for the Spectacle Wearer of the Year 2017.
The 61-year-old from Brixham has qualified as a regional finalist in the South West over 60s age category. She attended a prize giving at Specsavers Brixham where she was awarded a certificate, bottle of champagne and £150 eyewear voucher.
Julie was spotted by the Specsavers Brixham store manager thanks to her unique style.
Julie says: ‘I’ve been wearing glasses for 30 years, initially for reading only, but now I depend on them pretty much all the time. I love my glasses and they definitely complete my look. I like to choose the colours and style carefully. They are very much an important accessory and necessity for me.’
Julie has a busy family life. She is married with two daughters, one son, five grandchildren and her parents who are both nearly 90 years old.
Julie added: ‘Aside from my family, yoga is a big passion for me. I have been teaching for more than 30 years with groups of 20 or so women and teach one-to-one with people living with mental and physical illness. For the past decade I have also been working with women before, during and after childbirth as a doula, which incorporates the benefits of yoga and mindfulness.
‘I am delighted to have been selected in the competition as there are so many wonderful pictures of others that have entered. If I were fortunate to win the competition I think I would use the money on our 45th wedding anniversary in December to have a special celebration with the whole family as my treat.’
Congratulations from the store
Dr Chibuzor Rogers-Uwadi, store director of Specsavers in Brixham, said: ‘Our store manager Eddie did a great job in spotting Julie and putting her forward to represent Brixham. I would like to wish Julie the best of luck, she’s a very stylist glasses wearer and would make a great ambassador.’
