Four brave members of staff from the Specsavers store in Filton took on the challenge of abseiling down Avon Gorge to raise £500 for St Peter’s Hospice.
Assistant manager, Jess Wilson, and optical assistants Tina Wilson, Haylie Poole and Claire Neil all secured sponsorship to make the scary 190m descent against a backdrop of the Clifton Suspension Bridge.
Now that the team has reached its original fundraising target for the hospice, they are hoping to raise a further £500 by the end of the year.
‘All of us were a bit apprehensive but once we started, we relaxed and were able to enjoy it,’ says Jess. ‘None of us had ever done anything like that before so it was a great feeling when we got to the bottom.’
The store also held a cake and sweet sale and carried out specs MOTs (cleaning and adjustments) in return for donations to reach their £500 goal. In a bid to raise the next £500, customers will have the chance to get their hands on one of two signed Bristol Rovers shirts through a raffle and silent auction.
St Peter’s Hospice is a Bristol charity caring for adults with life-limiting illnesses. It aims to improve the quality of their living and dying while extending care and support to their families and loved ones.
