A member of staff from a Filton opticians took on the SimplyHealth Great Bristol 10k and raised £160 for CLIC Sargent.
Store manager, Maria Matuszak, from Specsavers on Church View, Filton completed the race on Sunday 13 May. Starting in the historic harbourside area, the route took her through iconic Bristol landmarks including the Clifton Suspension Bridge and Avon Gorge.
‘It was a challenge but extremely rewarding,’ comments Maria. ‘The cheers from the crowd and support from fellow runners spurred me on to keep going. I’d like to say thank you to everyone who made a donation to support our ongoing charity partnership with CLIC Sargent.’
Store director at Specsavers Filton, Ed Stanleigh, said: ‘We’re incredibly proud of our staff here in Filton for going above and beyond with their fundraising efforts. For such a small team, it’s inspiring to see their dedication to charity work.’
Specsavers in Cribbs Causeway, Bradley Stoke and Filton have come together and nominated CLIC Sargent as their charity of the year for 2018. In a bid to raise as much money as possible for the children’s cancer charity, employees are taking part in a number of fundraising challenges and events throughout the year.

CLIC Sargent provides practical, financial and emotional support for children and teenagers who have been diagnosed with cancer or leukaemia. The charity believes that children with cancer have the right to the best possible treatment, care and support throughout their cancer journey and beyond.
