The team at Specsavers in Brighouse has raised enough money to sponsor four hearing dogs at charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People after raising over £400 at the Brighouse 1940’s weekend.
The store showed their support for the charity by holding a bake sale to tie in with the national PAWS for a coffee event that took place in May. Hearing dog puppies were also invited in to store for patients to meet, and to get to know more about the important work that the hearing dogs perform.
The amount raised by the team at will go towards vital training in preparation for the puppy to be paired with a deaf person to support them in their everyday life.
Hearing loss set to rise
Speaking about the importance of sponsoring a puppy, Michele Jennings, Chief Executive of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, said: ‘With the number of people with hearing loss in the UK set to rise significantly in the future, it is crucial that we can meet the ever-increasing demands for the life-changing benefits of hearing dogs.’
Michele added: ‘By sponsoring a puppy through donations from the PAWS for coffee event, we can achieve our 2020 vision to increase the number of hearing dogs partnerships we create by 10% year on year.’
Specsavers Audiologists and Hearing Dogs for Deaf People celebrated 10 years of partnership earlier this year.
