The team at Specsavers in Bridlington has recently taken part in a moonlit walk to raise funds for Breast Cancer Care.
Seven miles along the cliffs
On Saturday 25 October, staff from the Bridlington opticians set off at 9pm to walk seven miles along the cliff-top path from The Ship Inn at Sewerby to South Beach and back.
Breast Cancer Care is a cause very close to the Specsavers team’s heart. Tracy Elliot, the contact lens assistant at the store, has battled breast cancer in the past and recently reached her seven-year milestone of being free from the disease.
Tracy said: ‘I know first-hand what it’s like to receive that devastating news and I want to do all I can to raise money for other people in the same situation. The team in store were so supportive throughout my battle with cancer and it’s wonderful that now we have come together to help other people.'
More than £570 raised for charity
Tracy added: ‘There was a fantastic atmosphere on the night and the event was a huge success as we raised more than £570.’
As part of the team’s fundraising month for Breast Cancer Care they also held an in-store fundraising day. Activities included a competition to guess the number of sweets in a jar. The lucky winner was Matthew Sutton, 7, who correctly guessed that the jar contained 182 bonbons.
