Bridgnorth resident and police community support officer, Sue Eden has been chosen as a semi-finalist in the 60+ category in the Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.

£10,000 prize

The 62-year-old entered the national competition after a friend who works at the Bridgnorth store encouraged her. She has recently been chosen out of hundreds of other entries in the area as a semi-finalist, and is now in with a chance of winning £10,000.

To mark her achievement, Sue was invited to the High Street store to receive a bottle of champagne, a £150 eyewear voucher and a certificate.

Sue said: ‘I’ve worn glasses for 20 years. I have varifocals as I have to wear them all the time. I’ve always seen glasses as a necessary thing, but that doesn’t mean you can’t put your own style on them. I find Specsavers always has a great range and I’m really happy in my style.’

Distinct style

‘Sue knows that without her glasses, she couldn’t effectively do her job as a PCSO,’ added store director Teresa Hughes. ‘She has her own distinct style, and isn’t really influenced by celebrity fashions, but always chooses spectacles that suit her personality.’

The awards were launched by Nadine Coyle, formerly of Girls Aloud, earlier this year to celebrate specs wearers nationwide.

The competition has five age categories – 16-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-59 and 60+. Each age category winner will be treated to a VIP makeover and a trip to London for the awards evening, with one overall winner taking home the ultimate prize.
