A woman from Bridgend has reached the regional finals of this year’s Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition, after reaching the London final in 2013.
A chance of winning
Georgina Bunch, 45, has been named a Welsh regional finalist within her age category, and is in with a chance of winning a £1,000 voucher for Specsavers and £10,000 cash.
A qualified youth worker, Georgina has entered every year since reaching the finals four years ago.
‘I have a complete understanding and appreciation of what Kidscape does - a truly wonderful cause,’ she says. ‘Every year I enter and encourage others to do the same, it’s free and gives £1 to a fantastic charity.
‘I had a great time at the 2013 final and would love to reach that far again – winning would be amazing.’
Ms Bunch was presented with a certificate, bottle of champagne and £150 to spend in store at the Bridgend store to mark her progression.
The 2017 awards were launched earlier this year by multi-platinum pop star, Nadine Coyle, who won the ‘Best Specs Newcomer’ award at last year’s event.
The five age categories are: 16-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-59 and over 60s, plus a Facebook favourite voted for by the public. The winner will receive a VIP makeover at a star-studded awards ceremony in London.
Thousands of entries
Store director, Stuart Buckmaster, says: ‘We’re excited to see Georgina’s second success in the competition. Every year it has thousands of entries so to be a regional finalist twice is quite an achievement.
‘We wish Georgina the best of luck and hope she makes it to the finals again in London.’
For each entry, £1 has been donated to the anti-bullying charity, Kidscape. The competition has raised over £400,000 and will help support Kidscape to provide training, advice and support for those who may be affected by bullying in the UK.
