A long-serving member of staff at the Specsavers store in Bridgend is celebrating after completing her second half marathon.
Completing the Cardiff Half
Mairwen Chess, 60, ran the Cardiff Half Marathon in a time of 2 hours, 41 minutes.
The completion of a 13.1 mile run was huge achievement for Mairwen who is an insulin-dependent diabetic.
After 16 years of service at the Bridgend store, Mairwen is moving to Specsavers in Porthcawl to work with the team at the newly-established store.
Mairwen Chess, optical dispenser at Specsavers, said: ‘I really enjoyed running the half marathon; it was a great day out and, if I can do it, it proves that everyone can give it a go – no matter their age or ability!
‘I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all the team at Bridgend for making the past 16 years such a pleasure. Specsavers in Bridgend has been a fantastic place to work and although I will miss all of the staff here, I look forward to helping establish the new store in Porthcawl, which is a really exciting venture for the whole team.’
‘Personally congratulate Mairwen’
Carly Jenkins, store manager of Specsavers in Bridgend, said: ‘I would like to personally congratulate Mairwen for her achievement. Her determination to complete the half marathon was admirable – she’s certainly a role model to her colleagues.
‘After years of service at the Bridgend store, Mairwen is taking on a new challenge at our sister store in Porthcawl. During her time with us, she has been a real asset to the team and will be sorely missed by staff and customers here at Bridgend Specsavers.’
