Directors from Specsavers stores across Essex will take part in a county-wide charity bike ride and walk as part of Dementia Action Week (21-17 May), to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society, including optometrist director of Specsavers Brentwood, Manoj Patel.
A great cause
One team of six will cycle 50 miles across the county, while at the same time six more directors will walk 10km.
The group includes directors from Brentwood, Basildon, Lakeside, Bishops Stortford, Southend, Leigh-on-Sea, Canvey Island, Wickford and Clacton-on-Sea, along with Essex regional relationship manager, Roy Thorogood.
Pledging to raise a thousand pounds
Roy said: ‘This is our second year holding sporting events to raise money for this really worthwhile charity. We are pledging to raise a minimum of £1,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society, who do fantastic work supporting people suffering with Alzheimer’s and Dementia, and their loved ones.’
Dementia affects 820,000 people in the UK and around 23 million people in the UK have a close friend or family member with dementia.
Many Specsavers stores have staff members who are trained ‘Dementia Friends’, dedicated to supporting their customers.
