The store manager of Specsavers in Brecon has been appointed as director to oversee the store’s hoptical and audiology services.
Dual store director
Donna Like, 33, joins current optometrist director, Clare Corcoran, as retail director. Ms Like first joined the store in October 2003 as an optical assistant; one of the first employees to work at the store which opened the same year.
In 2007, she was promoted to store manager after completing the Institute of Leadership and Management’s Level 2 and 3 qualifications as well as certificates in optical dispensing.
Ms Like has now joined Ms Corcoran in the directorship of the store after completing Pathway – Specsavers’ recruitment programme that tests and trains individuals to see if they have the skills to become a store partner.
‘Enjoy pushing myself’
‘I started work here as an optical assistant, never imagining that one day I would be at the helm of the store, having responsibility for the business,’ says Ms Like.
‘I’ve been here for 13 years and enjoy pushing myself to achieve both personal and professional goals, throughout which I have been supported by my mentor and friend, Clare.’
Ms Like has also worked with her team to achieve ‘Platinum Employer’ status, an externally validated accreditation scheme in which Specsavers stores aim to achieve best practice across five areas of people management: talent management, recruitment and induction, performance management and reward, learning and development and employee communications and engagement.
Ms Corcoran adds: ‘Donna’s retail experience is second-to-none and her knowledge of the local area, our customers and the services we provide makes her appointment to store director an obvious one. I’m sure she will lead the team to great successes as director, as already shown in her achievement of the store being recognised as a Platinum Employer.’
