To help raise awareness about lung health in honour of their director’s mum, the Brecon team has stepped up to raise more than £600 for Stepping Stones, the lung cancer campaign at Velindre Cancer Centre.

Sponsored pledges

The High Street store team completed sponsored pledges in honour of the mother of store director, Donna Like. Ruth Like was diagnosed with lung cancer in November 2017.

The seven members of staff completed their 300,000 pledged steps, an additional 15 hours of yoga and also held a bake sale in-store.

‘Vital research'

Hannah Shepherd, dispensing optician, says: ‘The team always puts so much effort into fundraisers, but because this was so close to home, everyone was even keener to pledge their support and raise money.

‘The Stepping Stones Appeal not only raises money that funds vital research into treatments, but it is also important to raise awareness of general lung health. Lung cancer is the most common form of cancer in Wales but is one of the least supported. There are only two organisations in Wales dedicated to fighting lung cancer, Velindre and Roy Castle. We’re committed to doing everything we can to change that.’
