New optometrist Luke Harris has passed his final exams this month to become the newest qualified optometrist at Specsavers in Braintree.
The 23-year-old has worked for the local opticians for the past 18 months after completing his degree in optometry at Aston University, where he began his studies in 2012.
A flare for science
Luke said: ‘I always had a flare for sciences when I was at school and healthcare seemed to be something well suited to me.
‘I really enjoy helping people who are struggling, and knowing that I can make a real difference to their lives is what motivates me’

The Panfield resident decided to do his pre-reg year with the Braintree opticians after hearing from colleagues that Specsavers was the best-equipped organisation to help him complete his studies and become fully qualified.
Luke took his OSCEs (Observed Structured Clinical Examinations) this month, which entailed a selection of 17 five-minute stations, where actors posed optical issues for him to solve. There were also observed clinical tests, where examiners watched him find solutions and test patients.
Now qualified Luke plans on working for a number of years to save up to go travelling through Asia and Australia. In his spare time he plays football and goes to the gym, enjoying an active lifestyle.
