The teams at Specsavers in Bradford and Girlington are encouraging their customers to enter a national competition, in a bid to get a Bradford person crowned ‘Spectacle Wearer of the Year’.
To get as many people involved as possible, staff from both stores hosted an evening event in the store at Girlington's Victoria Shopping Centre from 6-8pm on Wednesday 13 May. The event was designed so that customers could get inspiration for their competition entries and maximise their chances of taking home the top prize.
Enthusiastic amateur photographer and retail manager at Specsavers in Girlington, Gavin Bain wasbe in paparazzi-mode at the event in Girlington, and set up a makeshift studio in-store where customers could pose for top-quality photos and enter on the spot. Drinks and nibbles were also available.
It's easy to enter
The competition will be open until 3 July. To enter, customers need to share a photo of themselves in their glasses, and can do so online here or in a Specsavers store. There are five age categories – 16-24, 25-35, 35-44, 45-59 and over 60s – plus a Facebook favourite put to the public vote.
The overall winner will be presented with £10,000 in cash and a dream stay at the Atlantis Paradise Island in the Bahamas. A winner from each category will win a VIP makeover and will mingle with celebrities at an awards ceremony to be held in London on the 6 October.
All for a good cause
For every eligible entry Specsavers will donate £1 to anti-bullying charity Kidscape, which is celebrating 30 years of helping vulnerable children in 2015. The money raised will help to support them in providing training, support and advice for children, parents, schools and those who may be affected by cases of bullying and abuse in the UK.
A word from the director
Pete Rooke, store director at Specsavers in Bradford and Girlington, commented: ‘We want to celebrate the specs-wearing superstars in our local area. Not only is the Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition an opportunity for people of all ages to show how great they look in their glasses, it’s also a fantastic way of raising lots of money for a worthy cause.
We were pleased to see lots of our customers at the event, and we find the winner, it might even mark the start of one lucky customer’s journey to the Bahamas!’
