Volunteers from Cornwall Search and Rescue were celebrating taking home the Public Service award, presented by sponsors Specsavers Bodmin, at the 2017 Pirate FM Local Hero awards.

The organisation was nominated by Kathryn Davidson who witnessed first-hand their tireless and selfless searches scouring the countryside in all weather conditions, day and night time.

Courageous and selfless

Specsavers Bodmin, store director, Carl Grobler, said: ‘I felt humbled to be on the stage with such a selfless and courageous group of volunteers. This award is richly deserved. Congratulations to all the team.’

Mark Grantham from Cornwall Search and Rescue Team collected the trophy, said: ‘We’re a band of people with similar aims and interests. It’s all people who want to be active and helpful members of the community.

'Also people who have a background in the outdoors that don’t mind spending six, seven, eight hours in the pouring rain and will just come back willing to do more.’
