Bodmin Specsavers store director, Carl Grobler and the team were delighted to attend the Pirate FM Local Hero Awards and present the Good Neighbour and Public Service winners.

Good Neighbour award, sponsored by Specsavers Bodmin

Richard Buck was awarded the Good Neighbour title after responding to a plea on social media from nominator Jane Brown during the treacherous road condition we experienced this year. Jane was desperate to get her husband Malcolm to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro for life saving cancer surgery.

Public Service winners

Lou Pickett and Karen Hodgkinson, were also affected by this year’s snow, which saw the county ground to a halt. Lou and Karen are part of the team that provide care for Cornwall’s sick and premature babies in the Royal Cornwall Hospital’s neonatal unit.

A word from the director

Bodmin Specsavers store director, Carl Grobler, said: ‘Richard did not hesitate to take the risk, not just for Malcolm but for another essential member of the medical staff.

‘Lou and Karen spent three solid days at the hospital, away from their own families to ensure that the sick and premature babies of Cornwall were cared for.

All the winners were an inspiration us all. On behalf of all the team at Specsavers Bodmin congratulations, we are proud to have been part of your special evening.’
