Elisha Tax, aged 17, from Blackpool was chosen as a regional finalist in Specsavers’ annual Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.

Store manager Pauline Watkins presented her with a bottle of champagne, a certificate and a £150 Specsavers voucher in store at Specsavers Blackpool.

Top of the class

Elisha, a college student from Blackpool, was entered into the competition by her mum and was pleasantly surprised when she found out that she had been selected ahead of 1,000 other entries as a regional finalist.

She said: ‘I had no idea my mum had entered me, but when she heard that I’d been chosen as one of the finalists, we were both thrilled. It’s been a massive confidence boost so far.’

Signature style

‘I started wearing glasses when I was thirteen years old as I began to have more and more issues with my eyesight. At first, the problems weren’t all too noticeable but this started building up to the point where I needed to get my eyes tested.

'Since then, I’ve grown to really love wearing my glasses – they’re a part of who I am.’

Elisha has some advice for anyone who needs to start wearing glasses but doesn’t feel confident about it: ‘To anyone who is anxious about wearing their glasses, you really shouldn’t be. I’m really proud to wear mine and I believe it’s something that people should be confident in doing.’

A word from the store director
