The Blackburn Specsavers team was bowled over by the success of its annual sporting celebration after more than 45 of the town’s avid Crown Green Bowls players came together for the popular annual Specsavers Cup.
Held at the Green Park Bowling Green, the event saw amateur players pit their wits against each other for the chance to win a cash prize. The winner of the competition was Robert Howarth from Blackburn.
Alongside the sporting fun, there was also a popular charity raffle and cake sale which raised £215 for Derian House Children’s Hospice.
Stuart Ingleby, director of the two Specsavers stores in Lord Street Mall and the Morrisons superstore, congratulated Robert and thanked the community for its outstanding support.
Stuart, who made his debut as a competitor in the round robin competition this year, said: ‘What a fantastic event. A huge well done to Robert who bowled a fantastic game and thank you to everyone who took part for charity.
For a great cause
‘I was thrilled to take part for the first time against some fantastic competition. The tournament, which saw players paired up for three games each, was as competitive as ever.
‘We’re delighted to have sponsored and lent our name to this great competition once again so on behalf of Specsavers and all our players, I would like to say a big thank you to the Green Park club for their hospitality.
‘Aside from the competition, the delicious cake sale and charity raffle on behalf of the Derian House Children’s Hospice were brilliant and we’re thrilled to once again, raise money for such a great cause.’
