Charlotte Field, a dispensing assistant at the Bishop Stortford Specsavers store, is the opticians’ Dementia Friend.
A Dementia Friend, which is an Alzheimer’s Society initiative, helps staff to develop an understanding of dementia and support customers and employees who are affected by the condition.
Support and care
Charlotte, who qualified in March, said: ‘It’s really important to help customers who suffer from dementia and make them feel at ease while in the store.
‘Becoming a Dementia Friend has helped me understand the best ways to assist anyone who suffers with the condition.
‘It’s about taking that little extra time to support and care for customers.’
More qualifications to come
Charlotte added: ‘I’m the first person to qualify at the Bishop Stortford store, and we’re aiming for the whole team to be qualified soon.’
Dementia Friends is a qualification that is completed online and entails watching a series of scenario-based videos.
