Two stylish spec-wearers from Birkenhead were chosen as regional finalists in Specsavers’ annual Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.
Staff in Birkenhead presented Georgia Squibb, aged 26, and Kevin Thompson, aged 43, with certificates and £150 Specsavers vouchers, during a special photoshoot at the store.
Glasses galore for Georgia
Georgia was selected as a regional finalist in the 25 to 34 age category, while Kevin was chosen from the 34 to 45 age category, beating thousands of other entries across the North West.
Georgia, a make-up artist from Birkenhead, has always been passionate about wearing glasses, even before she needed prescription lenses.
She says: ‘I need glasses now, but I used to wear frames simply because I love the look. Being a make-up artist, I like accentuating my face with my glasses – it’s all a part of my look and I love it.
‘When I heard that I’d been selected, I honestly didn’t believe it at first. I thought someone was playing a trick on me.’
Proud to wear glasses
Kevin, also from Birkenhead, first started wearing his specs in his mid-20s and firmly believes that everyone should feel confident about wearing their glasses.
He says: ‘I find the stigma that comes with wearing glasses has disappeared nowadays and people are proud to be wearing them.
‘I had entered the competition before so to actually be chosen as a finalist this year has been an amazing experience.’
Remarkable for Birkenhead
Ken Roberts, store director at Specsavers in Birkenhead, says: ‘To have not only one, but two regional finalists in the competition, is remarkable.
‘We’re thrilled to see Georgia and Kevin make it this far in the competition. It was a pleasure to meet them and they very deserving winners.’
