Donate your specs
Since the start of 2016, generous residents have been handing in their old specs to Specsavers in Billericay. They have now been donated to international sight charity Vision Aid Overseas (VAO) to benefit those in need across Africa.
The charity will recycle the glasses and the proceeds from the reusable parts will be put towards establishing vision centres, training local eyecare professionals and providing outreach services to isolated communities.
David Farman, store director, has been championing the appeal in store. He said: ‘It’s fantastic that our customers are huge supporters of the work of Vision Aid Overseas. Something as simple as dropping your old specs in our collection bucket can make a huge difference to someone’s quality of life. If people would like to contribute, all they should do is pop into the store and drop them in the recycling box.’
