Determined staff at the store went the extra mile for Sport Relief 2016 by holding a sponsored indoor surf relay on Saturday 18 March.
The Specsavers Bideford team took part in a tag team instore surf-off using a ‘Magic Surfer’. Staff took turns to ride the balance board which pitches and rolls to simulate the experience of surfing.
For a great cause
Staff were in high spirits and donned grass skirts and flower wreaths to mark the occasion, attracting support and donations from customers.
Jerry Shrubb, store director at Specsavers Bideford, says: ‘As soon as the idea was suggested everybody was keen to take part. The team always have fun raising money for charity and everybody wants to do their bit to help change lives through the great work that Sport Relief do.
‘We are very grateful to everyone that visited the store to support us and donate, and hopefully they found our enthusiasm infectious.’
The money raised by Sports Relief goes towards important causes both home and abroad that tackle the root causes of poverty and social injustice. In the UK they help give shelter to those living on the streets and offer protection from victims of domestic abuse. Overseas they help educate children, and offer fresh water and vaccines to communities.
