A local charity that provides shelter and support for families experiencing domestic abuse is joining forces with Specsavers Bideford in a bid to collect donations and raise funds in time for Christmas.
Staff at the store are asking locals to bring in new clothing and toys at the busiest time of the year for the North Devon Against Domestic Abuse charity.
Sophie Scott, Specsavers Bideford store manager, said: ‘We are delighted to be supporting this local charity and hope that any donations from the local community and our customers will go some way to helping make things more comfortable for the families at refuge.’
A word from the charity
Alessia Sheldon, retail and fundraising manager, said: ‘At this time of year the trauma of finding yourself without your home cannot be under estimated.
'Many of the women who arrive at the refuge have little or no belongings. Comforts such as a new pair of pyjamas can go some way to helping them and their family feel more comfortable at this time of year.’
