Specsavers Park Centre was thrilled to once again back Belfast Media Group’s popular Best of the West Awards.

The awards demonstrated the resolve of West Belfast people especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic to show the strength of spirit and resilience.

An in-studio and virtual event

This year the awards were a hybrid event hosted by BBC presenter Lynette Faye at NIAVAC studios across town in East Belfast. Lynette was joined via ZOOM by winners in each of the 30 categories with the results revealed by sponsors (socially distanced) in the studio.

Specsavers Park Centre joined premier sponsor The Glider and fellow category sponsors GLL Better Leisure Supplies, Salon Supplies, Huhtamaki, Glenwood Business Park and Concentrix

Specsavers backs four categories

Optometry director Matthew McKenny announced the winners in four categories: Best Fry, Best Chemist, Best Bar and Club and Best Fish Supper. The awards were presented virtually to The Coffee House, McGraths Chemist, The PD – Andersonstown Social Club and Aldo’s Fish and Chips.

700,000 votes cast

In total, over 700,000 votes were cast by text, paper and internet in this year's competition which was launched back in February, pre-pandemic, then paused for six months before being revived in September.

Thanks to everyone

Belfast Media Group’s Christina said, ‘We want to thank all our sponsors, nominees and voters for staying with us through this difficult time to ensure that we were able to raise a glass to those businesses, organisations and individuals who are continuing to provide invaluable service to the community. 2020 has been a tough year for everyone but based on the outpouring of community spirit we witnessed at our virtual awards ceremony we can move forward with hope for the future.’

Congrats to all the winners

Specsavers Matthew McKenny congratulated all the winners saying, ‘The Best of the West is an excellent awards programme recognising the many businesses and organisations who contribute so brilliantly to the area. We’re proud to be a part of the evening and wholeheartedly congratulate all the finalists and ultimate winners.’
