Pharmacy student Peace Oseyemi has secured a regional semi-finalist award in this year’s Specsavers organised Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition. The 3rd year Ulster University at Coleraine student, who is based in Belfast during the holidays, collected her prizes at Specsavers in Victoria Square.
The stylish 21 year old’s family is originally from Nigeria but now live in Ireland. As an avid glasses fan and a lover of ‘selfies’ Peace decided to enter the competition having spotted the details on facebook.
‘I’ve been wearing glasses since I was 12 and need to wear them all the time. I love my specs and believe everyone should be proud of wearing glasses. They are a real fashion accessory these days.’
Former Pussycat Doll singer, dancer and Masterchef champion, Kimberly Wyatt launched Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of the Year earlier this year and Peace is now in with a chance of meeting Kimberly if she wins through to the star-studded grand final in London on 11 October. The ultimate winner secures £10,000 in cash and an all-expenses trip to global fashion capital, New York.
Champagne and new specs
Peace visited the new Specsavers store at Victoria Square to receive her semi-finalist prize package, which included a bottle of champagne and Specsavers voucher for £150, from Anne Matier, Store Manager at Belfast Victoria Square
For each Spectacle Wearer of the Year entry, Specsavers is donating £1 to charity Kidscape adding to the £300,000 the campaign has raised for the charity over the last 6 years. The money raised will help Kidscape provide training, support and advice for children, parents and schools and those who may be affected by cases of bullying and abuse in the UK.
