Advertising, Marketing and Communications student Niall Quinn made a visit to Specsavers in Victoria Square to collect his regional finalist prize in this year’s Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.

Niall from Ardboe, is soon to graduate from De Montfort University in Leicester, and won a regional award in the 16-24 age category. He will now go forward to the next round of judging, competing against finalists from England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales for a place in the prestigious final.

Niall received his prizes - a bottle of champagne, a certificate and a £150 Specsavers voucher- from Christopher Cornhill, optical assistant at Specsavers Victoria Square, Belfast.

Seeing a beautiful world clearly

Niall first began wearing glasses in 2006 when he started secondary school and has never looked back, ‘I really enjoy wearing glasses – it’s a beautiful world out there and you might as well see it clearly. Glasses can also make you look smart and intelligent and that’s no bad thing!’

‘I decided to enter the Specsavers competition as I’d recently purchased a new pair of specs and thought it would be a bit of craic. I’m certainly glad I did – it’s amazing to get this far in the competition and I’d like to wish everyone the best of luck for the next stage. I’m very pleased to win such excellent prizes and would like to thank Specsavers for setting up the competition.’

Guest star is Nadine Coyle

A star-studded awards ceremony will take place in London’s 8 Northumberland Avenue venue on 10 October when the overall winner will walk away with a cash prize of £10,000. VIP guest will be Derry singer Nadine Coyle, formerly of Girls Aloud.

Anti-bullying charity Kidscape will benefit from the awards as Specsavers donates £1 for each entry made. The competition has raised more than £400,000 for Kidscape over the past six years.
