2016 Spectacle Wearer of the Year winner Derek Dubery is encouraging specs wearers in Belfast to enter this year’s Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition. The civil servant who works in central Belfast is a patient with Specsavers Victoria Square and is encouraging glasses wearers to prove their specs appeal by entering the popular UK and Ireland wide competition.
‘It’s a fabulous competition with amazing prizes. I had a brilliant evening – it’s worthwhile taking a smart selfie and submitting it online – I’m certainly glad I did.’
Finalists win a VIP trip to London with the overall winner receiving £10,000.
New specs ambassador
Crowned Best Specs Newcomer at the 2016 awards former Girls Aloud band member Nadine Coyle has taken on the role of Spectacle Wearer of the Year 2017 ambassador and is encouraging specs wearers aged 16 and over to take a selfie and enter the competition.
‘I was thrilled to win the newcomer award last year, so it’s a real honour to help with the search to find the 2017 Spectacle Wearer of the Year.’
Competition raises funds for Kidscape
David Maguire, store director at Specsavers Victoria Square says, ‘We’re asking glasses wearers in the Belfast area to share their best selfie. It’s a fun opportunity for people to show off their personal specs style and each entry helps to raise funds for anti-bullying charity Kidscape.’
Specsavers will donate £1 per entry and monies raised will support the charity in providing training, support and advice for children, parents and schools. The competition has generated more than £400,000 for Kidscape over the past six years.
Five age categories
There are five age categories – 16-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-59 and over 60s. A Facebook favourite will also be voted for by the public. Each category winner receives a VIP makeover and will mingle with celebrities at the gala awards night held in London during October.
